Abstract

Abstract—this paper identifies and quantifies the relevant interactions involved in the hardening process of a photonbeam generated by a medical linear accelerator of 6 MV. The simulations were performed with the Penetration and Energy LOss of Positrons and Electrons (PENELOPE) code. The results show differences in the spectral energy distribution of the transmitted beam which crosses a Lipowitz’s solid material compensator, in respect of the incident beam;at the energy range of 0125 MV. to 1.375 MV.
