Abstract

Summary—This work presents the results of the design and manufacturing process of a system for clinical study of cognitive capability in presence of epileptic spikes. An EEG machine was developed with built in detection of epileptic spikes which triggers a cognitive test. It consists of an acquisition device with 8 channels in referential montage and a test console for interacting with the patient and measure its reaction time. A graphic user interface was included for controlling the device over USB from a PC.  The platform was designed with modularity in mind taking into consideration future enhancements.

A preliminary validation of the system as an EEG acquisition machine was made in patients with epilepsy. Epileptic Spikes were acquired and the algorithm’s performance was measured, obtaining satisfactory results.
